JT Atkinson Dales bike ride raises £4,020!

Staff and supporters of JT Atkinson Builders Merchants embarked on an epic 100-mile charity bike ride to raise funds for Friends of the Friarage

18 Nov 2022

At 6am on Sunday 9th October riders set off from the firms’ Northallerton branch to cycle around the Northern Dales, stopping at JT Atkinson branches within the Friarage Hospital catchment area. Overall the team covered a staggering 100 miles including steep inclines and narrow dales roads – thankfully without incident!

In total 8 riders completed the circular route around Northallerton, Bedale, Leyburn, Hawes, Richmond and Catterick in around 10 hours (including stops), others joined in support for ‘legs’ of the journey keeping morale high and the team in good spirits.

Whilst JT Atkinson regularly supports local charities it is the first time they have undertaken such a challenge, and plans are already in place for a similar event covering more miles in 2023.

The total donations raised from the event topped an impressive £2000 and Jamie Atkinson, Managing Director, has generously agreed to match contributions taking the total to £4000! Jamie said of the decision to fund match,

“As a local business we're always pleased to support our local communities and the charities that serve them.  We're proud to be able to support the Friarage Hospital, to help with their ongoing improvement schemes which will ensure it continues to be a fantastic facility for the area. “

Steph Race, Fundraising & Events Officer for the charity commented:,

“We cannot thank JT Atkinson staff and supporters enough for their hard work, enthusiasm and donations, it was a heroic effort by all involved and a great event to be a part of.”
